Best described as a “glamour-noir” thriller, Are You Awake is the dark and edgy tale of a petty criminal with an extraordinary talent. Working with our partner, The Dream Detective Media Properties, we developed a transmedia approach to drape Are You Awake across a range of storytelling platforms.

CHALLENGE

We wanted to develop an iPhone application that would allow our creative team to establish a bridgehead into the lives of potential audience members. The app needed to offer a range of media that would let users sample a wide range of experiences connected to the brand.

SOLUTIONS

The Are You Awake mobile app brought the story to life by unlocking music, secret messages and codes to make the narrative even more three-dimensional. Linked with the social network, fans could then use the codes to unlock rewards in the alternate reality game.

CHALLENGE

Are You Awake is imagined as an episodic, procedural series where crimes are solved with a bit of humor and a dose of the supernatural. While network television is the goal, our partner wanted to move more boldly towards their future audience by creating a webseries.

SOLUTIONS

We engaged No Equal Entertainment to shoot a live-action series prequel that captures the humor, danger and sexiness of the source material. Featuring a talented cast and some top drawer special effects, it provides a great taste of what is still to come.

CHALLENGE

We wanted to draw fans deeper into the drama and mystery that lived beyond the pages of the comic book. The alternate reality game developed that story and also helped connect it to the live action narrative. This gave fans the feeling of involvement in the story even before the series has launched.

SOLUTIONS

The characters in the game literally came out of the pages to interact with players as they analyzed their dreams or casually discussed their favorite music. Fans who played the alternate reality game are now eagerly awaiting the announcement of a live action series.

CHALLENGE

To unify the various media connecting potential audience members to Are You Awake, we developed a branded social network. As with all of our digital properties, this site needed to have the social features people expect, with a few unique twists of our own.

SOLUTIONS

Launched in tandem with the alternate reality game at New York Comic-Con, the social network is now being extended with features to support the webseries production. This site has become the destination for all things connected to the show, its creators and stars.
